Tactile Interface and Glass Bridge Analysis
Touchscreen-only interfaces on racing yachts are often impractical due to wet hands and extreme vessel motion. The B&G H5000 Pilot Controller features a dedicated button-based interface for tactile autopilot command. The high-resolution display provides clear visibility in direct sunlight.
Connectivity is managed via the NMEA 2000 protocol to synchronize commands with the H5000 Pilot Computer. Dedicated buttons for Auto, Wind, and Tacking modes allow for rapid tactical maneuvers during competitive sailing. The ruggedized chassis meets IPX7 standards for protection on open cockpit pedestals.
Strategic Vessel Application
Mandatory as the primary control interface for B&G H5000 Pilot systems on sailing vessels.

B&G H5000 Pilot Controller Technical Guide
The H5000 Controller features a dedicated, glass-bonded display designed for the harsh environment of a sailing cockpit. It provides instant access to the H5000 Pilot's unique features via physical buttons, which are much more reliable than touchscreens when handled with wet hands or gloves during a race.
The high-contrast display shows Pilot status, current heading, target wind angle, and rudder angle. It also allows the navigator to adjust advanced sailing parameters like "Response" levels and "Sea State" settings on the fly without entering deep menus on a multifunction display.
The controller has dedicated keys to increase or decrease the pilot's "aggression." In building wind or increasing sea state, a sailor can quickly bump up the response to keep the boat tracking safely. Conversely, in light air, the response can be lowered to reduce battery consumption and wear on the drive unit.
Yes, multiple H5000 controllers can be installed on the NMEA 2000 network—common on large yachts with dual steering pedestals. Any adjustment made on one controller is instantly reflected across the entire system. Each unit is IPX7 waterproof and designed for flush or bracket mounting.
No, the H5000 Pilot Controller is a display and control interface only. It relies on the H5000 Pilot Computer and external sensors (like the Precision-9 or ZG100) for all navigational and heading data. It connects via a single NMEA 2000 Micro-C cable for both power and data.
