Description
Networked Feedback and Processor Analysis
Virtual feedback systems may lack the surgical precision required for complex maneuvers in heavy following seas. The Simrad NAC-2 Core Pack with RF25N integrates a physical NMEA 2000 rudder feedback unit. This configuration provides absolute rudder position data to the computer.
The NAC-2 processor manages medium-current drive units while the Precision-9 compass monitors vessel attitude in real-time. System components communicate via the NMEA 2000 protocol for synchronized autopilot performance. The RF25N sensor features an IPX6 rating for durability in wet bilges.
Strategic Vessel Application
Optimized for vessels up to 35 feet requiring the highest level of rudder position accuracy via physical sensors.

Simrad NAC-2 w/RF25N Feedback Technical Guide
Unlike VRF systems, this pack includes the RF25N NMEA 2000 rudder feedback sensor. Physical feedback is essential for inboard boats, large yachts, and vessels that require absolute steering precision at very low speeds. It provides the autopilot with the exact rudder angle, preventing heading drift in strong currents or heavy winds.
The RF25N is a rotary sensor that attaches to the rudder stock or outboard tiller arm via a mechanical linkage. It connects directly to the NMEA 2000 backbone, sending rudder angle data to both the NAC-2 computer and any networked displays. Ensure the linkage has zero play for the most accurate steering performance.
This pack combines the NAC-2 computer, the Precision-9 compass, and the RF25N sensor. This trio provides the autopilot with 9-axis motion data and physical rudder orientation, creating the most stable and accurate steering logic for mid-sized vessels. The included N2k starter kit makes it easy to connect these components together.
The NAC-2 is compatible with 12V or 24V reversing pumps (up to 8A continuous), solenoid valves, and mechanical drives. It is often paired with a Simrad RPU80 pump. For vessels with larger hydraulic rams (over 14 CI), you should consider the high-current NAC-3 computer instead.
Yes, this core pack is designed to be controlled by a Simrad AP44, AP48, or a compatible multifunction display (MFD) like the NSX or NSS evo3S. The NMEA 2000 integration allows for seamless commissioning and control from any station on the vessel. All rudder data is shared across the network for real-time monitoring.
