Description
Vexilar FLX-18 | Genz Pack Bottom Zoom
The Vexilar FLX-18 Genz Pack solves the need for professional-grade bottom-tracking within the legendary, ruggedized “Blue Box” housing. This unit utilizes the same high-speed brushless motor as the Pro Pack series but prioritizes the stability and accessibility of the Dave Genz-designed platform. By integrating the DD-100 digital depth indicator, the system provides both analog flasher feedback and precise numerical depth data, ensuring that anglers can track subtle jig movements and fish reactions in the bottom zoom zone without the latency or freezing issues common in LCD-based ice sonar during extreme sub-zero deployments.
In demanding ice environments, don’t overlook the cable management within the Genz Pack’s open-back design. I’ve witnessed internal wire fatigue when the transducer lead is wound too tightly around the Blue Box handle; keep the coil loose to maintain the 12-degree signal integrity. Since the FLX-18 uses a high-gain analog signal, use the interference rejection (IR) settings when fishing near other flashers to prevent “ghost” targets. It’s also vital to keep the master power switch free of snow buildup to prevent accidental battery drain while the unit is stored in a cold sled during transport across the ice.
