Description
Build a high-power Furuno open-array radar installation with the Furuno DRS25AX 25 kW UHD Digital Radar and 4-foot array. The magnetron-based X-Class scanner combines a 25 kW transmitter with a 1.9° beam, giving larger vessels and serious offshore operators a traditional high-output radar option for long-range traffic, weather, and shoreline observation. Need a 4-foot scanner that can pair with a compatible NavNet system? The DRS25AX supports UHD digital processing, dual-range operation, target tracking, and up to 96 NM of instrumented range.
Key Specifications
- Furuno DRS25AX 25 kW UHD digital magnetron radar with 4-foot X-Class open array.
- 25 kW peak magnetron radar output.
- 4-foot open array with 1.9° horizontal and 20° vertical beamwidth.
- Up to 96 NM instrumented range and approximately 25 m minimum range.
- 24, 36, and 48 RPM rotation modes.
- Supports dual-range radar operation and Target Tracking for up to 30 targets through compatible Furuno systems.
- Does not use Doppler target-color technology.
- Furuno Ethernet connection for compatible NavNet TZtouch display systems.
- 24V DC input with approximately 108W operating draw and 45W standby draw.
- IP56 protection, 70-knot wind rating, and approximately 48.5 lb (22 kg) scanner weight.
Integration
The DRS25AX requires a compatible Furuno NavNet display, Furuno Ethernet network, correctly sized 24V power circuit, and suitable navigation sensors. Heading and position sources are required for target tracking, radar overlay, and stabilized display modes where supported. Confirm display software, cable lengths, radar network ports, and external power-supply requirements before installation.
The 96 NM figure is an instrumented range, not a guarantee of target detection. Performance varies with target size, antenna height, rain, weather, sea clutter, radar settings, vessel motion, and installation quality. Radar remains a navigation aid and does not replace lookout duties, safe speed, charts, or navigation-rule compliance.
Installation Notes
Mount the pedestal and 4-foot array on a rigid, level radar platform with full rotation clearance and enough structural capacity for the scanner and wind loads. Keep the array clear of people, masts, antennas, rigging, lights, exhaust, and structures that can create shadow sectors.
Use Furuno-approved cables, protected 24V power wiring, proper circuit protection, grounding, and Ethernet routing. A qualified marine-electronics technician should complete the installation, bearing alignment, target-tracking setup, and system commissioning.
Before Ordering
Confirm compatible Furuno NavNet MFD support, available Furuno Ethernet connection, 24V DC capacity, 4-foot array clearance, platform strength, required radar cables, heading/GPS sensor configuration, and professional installation requirements before ordering.
