Description
Build a dedicated commercial-style radar station with the Simrad R3016 and HALO-4 Radar Bundle. The package combines a 16-inch radar control display with a 4-foot solid-state pulse-compression open array, giving operators a focused radar screen for tracking traffic, weather, and nearby structures during offshore work, coastal transit, or nighttime operation. Need separate radar controls instead of relying only on a multifunction display? This bundle supports VelocityTrack Doppler, independent dual-range viewing, ARPA tracking, and up to 64 NM of instrumented range.
Key Specifications
- Simrad R3016 16-inch radar control unit with HALO-4 4-foot open-array radar bundle.
- 25W solid-state pulse-compression radar with 60W peak pulse output.
- 4-foot open-array antenna with 1.8° horizontal and 25° vertical beamwidth.
- Up to 64 NM instrumented range and approximately 20 ft (6 m) minimum range.
- 16–48 RPM rotation range, depending on selected operating mode.
- VelocityTrack Doppler target-color technology and independent dual-range viewing.
- ARPA target tracking for up to 50 targets with compatible heading and position data.
- SimNet, NMEA 2000, and Ethernet connectivity.
- Up to approximately 100W maximum combined operating draw and 20W standby draw.
- IPX6 radar antenna protection, IPX7 display-front protection, 80-knot wind rating, and approximately 41.4 lb (18.8 kg) pedestal-and-array weight.
Integration
The bundle includes a dedicated R3016 radar control display and HALO-4 radar scanner, but a complete installation still requires vessel power, appropriate cabling, mounting structure, and navigation sensors. Heading and position data are required for ARPA, radar overlay, and other course-up or north-up functions. Ethernet carries radar video, while SimNet/NMEA 2000 can distribute compatible GPS, heading, AIS, autopilot, and sensor data.
Simrad identifies the R3016/HALO-4 combination as a 16-inch dedicated radar display with a 4-foot open array and up to 64 NM range. [911][912] The stated range is instrumented and not a guaranteed detection distance; radar performance varies with antenna height, target size, rain, sea state, clutter, settings, and installation quality.
Installation Notes
Mount the 4-foot open array on a rigid, level platform with full rotation clearance and adequate structural capacity. Keep it clear of personnel, masts, antennas, rigging, lights, exhaust, and structures that can block radar energy or create shadow sectors. Install the 16-inch control unit in a protected helm location where its display and controls remain accessible.
Use correct power wiring, recommended circuit protection, marine-grade network cables, and protected cable routing. Follow Simrad guidance for grounding, compass-safe distance, personnel safe distance, radar alignment, and software setup. Radar is a navigation aid and does not replace lookout duties, safe speed, current charts, or navigation-rule compliance.
Before Ordering
Confirm available radar-mount strength, 4-foot sweep clearance, R3016 helm mounting space, Ethernet/SimNet/NMEA 2000 network plan, power capacity, cable lengths, heading/GPS sensor availability, and professional installation requirements before ordering.
