Integration

The AIS100Q connects to a compatible PC, Mac, navigation application, or chartplotter through USB or NMEA 0183. It is not a transceiver, VHF voice radio, GPS receiver, radar, chartplotter, or emergency beacon. Since the unit is receive-only, other boats cannot see your vessel through this equipment.

The included magnetic antenna offers portable convenience, but AIS reception depends on its location, ground-plane conditions, antenna height, cable routing, local RF interference, and other vessels transmitting valid data. AIS is an aid to awareness and does not replace radar, charts, visual lookout, or safe navigation.

Installation Notes

Place the magnetic antenna on an appropriate flat metal surface or use a suitable ground-plane arrangement according to the antenna instructions. Keep the antenna and coaxial cable clear of high-current wires, radio transmit antennas, moving equipment, and areas where the cable could chafe. Install the receiver in a dry cabin area and secure USB connections against vibration.

Configure the correct serial port and baud rate in the navigation software, then test AIS target reception before heading offshore. Do not rely on a temporary antenna as a substitute for a permanent compliant AIS installation when consistent reception is required.
