Description
Combine Class B SOTDMA AIS, a VHF communications hub, and remote vessel monitoring in one connected system with the Vesper Cortex M1 SmartAIS Transponder. Its 5W AIS transmitter, Class D DSC, integrated VHF hub, and built-in Wi-Fi/Bluetooth are designed for boaters who want AIS data and VHF functionality distributed to compatible handsets, MFDs, and mobile devices. Need a connected communication platform rather than a basic AIS black box? The Cortex M1 supports NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183, Ethernet, remote monitoring, and 12V/24V operation in an IPX7 hub enclosure.
Key Specifications
- Vesper Cortex M1 SmartAIS Transponder, model 1110001.
- Class B SOTDMA AIS transponder with 5W AIS transmission power.
- Integrated VHF communications hub with up to 25W VHF transmit output.
- Class D DSC capability with dedicated DSC watch receiver.
- 72-channel GNSS receiver supporting GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou.
- NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183, and Ethernet network connectivity.
- Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for compatible handsets and mobile devices.
- Requires an external handset, mobile device, or compatible MFD for display and operation.
- 9.6V–31.2V DC input, approximately 5W average draw, and up to approximately 35W peak during VHF transmission.
- IPX7 hub enclosure, operating range of -13°F to 131°F (-25°C to 55°C), and approximately 2.0 lb (0.9 kg) weight.
Integration
The Cortex M1 requires compatible Cortex handsets or approved display/control devices, VHF and AIS antenna arrangements, MMSI programming, and appropriate GNSS installation. It is not a standalone chartplotter, radar, emergency beacon, or guaranteed collision-avoidance system. Confirm the required handset, antenna splitter, external GPS antenna, and network components before ordering.
VHF DSC and AIS transmission require correct MMSI registration and vessel data. In the U.S., Channel 70 is reserved for DSC and should not be used for voice calls; VHF Channel 16 is used for distress, safety, and calling. [928][932] Remote-monitoring functions depend on supporting service plans, cellular/data availability, configuration, and connected accessories.
Installation Notes
Mount the hub in a dry, accessible location with suitable ventilation and cable access. Install VHF/AIS antennas according to manufacturer spacing and splitter requirements, position the GNSS antenna for clear sky view, and route RF cables away from high-current wiring. Use correct 9.6V–31.2V power wiring and circuit protection sized for peak VHF transmission load.
Have a qualified installer configure the MMSI, vessel details, GNSS offsets, AIS data outputs, DSC settings, handset pairing, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth access, and remote-monitoring functions. Test VHF, DSC, AIS reception/transmission, and NMEA integration before regular use.
Before Ordering
Confirm VHF/AIS antenna requirements, required handset or display, MMSI and licensing needs, NMEA/Ethernet compatibility, GNSS antenna placement, 12V/24V power capacity, remote-monitoring subscription requirements, and professional configuration support before ordering.
