Integration

The R300 needs a suitable AIS/VHF antenna or approved antenna splitter plus a compatible MFD, chartplotter, radar display, or navigation computer. It is not an AIS transceiver, VHF voice radio, GPS receiver, chartplotter, radar, or emergency beacon. Because it only receives AIS, it does not make the vessel visible to other AIS-equipped traffic.

AIS reception depends on antenna height, antenna condition, local VHF interference, terrain, distance, and other vessels transmitting accurate data. AIS does not identify every vessel, buoy, floating object, or navigation hazard and should be used alongside radar, charts, visual lookout, and safe operating practices.

Installation Notes

Mount the receiver in a dry, accessible location with protected power, RF, and data connections. Use an AIS-rated VHF antenna or approved splitter, keep coaxial cable in good condition, and route RF cables away from high-current wiring. Connect the preferred NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183, or USB interface to the display system.

Use correctly fused 9.6V–31.2V power wiring and configure the chartplotter or navigation software for AIS input. Confirm that targets appear correctly after installation before depending on the system.
