Description
The Furuno DRS4DL+ is a 19-inch, 4 kW magnetron radar radome for compatible Furuno NavNet TZtouch2 and TZtouch multifunction displays. This enclosed radar scanner uses Furuno Ultra High Definition digital radar processing to support target awareness, Fast Target Tracking, and compatible MARPA functions. It requires a compatible Furuno MFD, radar Ethernet connection, power cable, suitable radar mount, and vessel-specific installation hardware.
The DRS4DL+ provides a manufacturer-rated maximum instrumented range of 36 NM, 5.2-degree horizontal beamwidth, 25-degree vertical beamwidth, and 24 RPM rotation speed. It uses conventional pulsed magnetron technology, not solid-state pulse compression or Doppler. Practical detection range varies with antenna height, target size, sea state, weather, radar settings, vessel motion, and local interference.
Key Specifications
- Nineteen-inch Furuno Ultra High Definition digital magnetron radar radome.
- Provides 4 kW peak magnetron output and a maximum instrumented range of up to 36 NM.
- Uses a 488 mm, or 19-inch, enclosed radome with 5.2-degree horizontal and 25-degree vertical beamwidth.
- Operates at 24 RPM and has a listed minimum range of approximately 15 m.
- Supports Fast Target Tracking and compatible MARPA functions through supported NavNet displays.
- Requires a compatible Furuno NavNet TZtouch2 or TZtouch multifunction display and Ethernet radar connection.
- Operates from 12V or 24V DC, uses approximately 23W transmitting and 10W in standby, and weighs approximately 5.7 kg.
- Has IPX6 water protection and requires separately selected compatible radar cable, mount, and display equipment.
Radar Integration
The DRS4DL+ needs a compatible Furuno NavNet TZtouch2 or TZtouch MFD for radar control and video display. Radar video uses Furuno Ethernet networking; NMEA 2000 can provide compatible GPS, heading, AIS, autopilot, and sensor data but is not the primary radar-video connection.
MARPA target tracking and radar overlay require compatible heading and position sources where applicable. Fast Target Tracking assists with target tracking through a compatible display, but results depend on correct system configuration, antenna mounting, target characteristics, sea conditions, weather, and radar settings. Radar is a navigation aid and does not replace a proper lookout, safe speed, official charts, local notices, or collision-regulation compliance.
Installation Considerations
Mount the radome on a rigid stable platform with a clear scanner rotation area, practical height above the waterline, and alignment parallel to the waterline. Keep the scanner clear of crew, masts, rigging, antennas, lights, exhaust, and other obstructions. Maintain manufacturer-specified personnel safe distance and compass-safe distance. Route power and Ethernet cables away from heat, chafe, bilge water, high-current wiring, and moving equipment. Radar installation and commissioning should be completed by a qualified marine-electronics technician.
Warranty and Saltwater Care
Furuno warranty coverage varies by region, distributor, proof of purchase, product registration, commissioning status, installation method, and intended use. Confirm the applicable local warranty terms, exclusions, and authorized-service requirements before purchase.
The radome is designed for marine use and has IPX6 ingress protection, but this rating does not guarantee immunity from saltwater corrosion. Rinse salt deposits with fresh water where appropriate, avoid high-pressure water at the cable gland and connectors, inspect mounting hardware, radome seals, cable connections, and mounting platform regularly, and use compatible marine-grade fasteners plus suitable isolation methods to reduce galvanic-corrosion risk.
Before Ordering
Confirm compatible Furuno NavNet TZtouch2 or TZtouch MFD support, Furuno Ethernet radar connection, required power and radar cable length, 12V or 24V supply, suitable radome mount, clear 19-inch scanner rotation area, mounting height, personnel and compass-safe-distance requirements, heading and GPS source for MARPA or radar overlay, optional AIS integration, and qualified installation requirements before purchase.
