Description
Get solid-state Doppler radar performance with a compact open-array footprint using the Furuno DRS6A-NXT and its 3.5-foot antenna. The 25W pulse-compression scanner, 2.3° beamwidth, and 72 NM instrumented range give boaters a useful balance between bearing separation and installation space for offshore fishing, cruising, and professional-use vessels. Need faster target information without a magnetron warm-up period? The DRS6A-NXT supports Target Analyzer Doppler, RezBoost processing, Fast Target Tracking, Bird Mode, and dual-range operation through compatible Furuno displays.
Key Specifications
- Furuno DRS6A-NXT solid-state pulse-compression Doppler radar with 3.5-foot open array.
- 25W solid-state radar output with up to 72 NM instrumented range.
- 3.5-foot slotted-waveguide array with 2.3° horizontal and 22° vertical beamwidth.
- RezBoost processing can narrow effective horizontal beamwidth on compatible systems.
- 24, 36, and 48 RPM rotation modes.
- Supports Target Analyzer Doppler, Fast Target Tracking for up to 100 targets, Bird Mode, and dual-range operation.
- Approximately 10 m minimum range.
- Furuno Ethernet networking for compatible NavNet displays.
- 12V/24V DC input, approximately 45W operating draw, 15W standby draw, IP56 protection, and 70-knot wind rating.
- Approximate complete scanner weight: 44.1 lb (20 kg).
Integration
The DRS6A-NXT requires a compatible Furuno NavNet TZtouch, TZtouch2, TZtouch3, or supported TimeZero display for radar video and control. Furuno Ethernet carries radar data, while NMEA 2000 can provide compatible heading, GPS, AIS, autopilot, and sensor information. Target tracking and radar overlay require suitable heading and position data.
Target Analyzer uses Doppler processing to help indicate relative target movement, while Fast Target Tracking and Bird Mode rely on compatible display support and proper radar configuration. The 72 NM figure is an instrumented range rather than a guarantee of detection distance. Scanner height, target size, weather, rain, clutter, sea state, and installation affect practical results.
Installation Notes
Mount the pedestal and 3.5-foot array on a rigid, level platform with full rotation clearance and adequate capacity for scanner weight, vibration, and wind loads. Keep the array clear of people, antennas, masts, lights, rigging, exhaust, and structures that can create shadow sectors.
Use Furuno-approved power and Ethernet cables, suitable circuit protection, grounding, and protected cable routing. Follow manufacturer guidelines for safe distances, mounting torque, antenna alignment, and display setup. Radar is a navigation aid and does not replace a proper lookout, safe speed, charts, or navigation-rule compliance.
Before Ordering
Confirm compatible Furuno MFD support, available Ethernet connection, 12V/24V power capacity, 3.5-foot sweep clearance, platform strength, cable requirements, and heading/GPS sensor availability before ordering.
