Description
The Furuno DRS6AX UHD Digital Radar System is a 6 kW magnetron open-array marine radar package with a 3.5-foot antenna, pedestal, and 15 m radar cable. It is designed for compatible Furuno NavNet TZtouch and TZtouch2 multifunction displays, combining Ultra High Definition digital processing, Target Analyzer functions, RezBoost beam sharpening, Bird Mode, and target tracking support in a high-power open-array scanner.
The system uses conventional magnetron pulse radar technology rather than solid-state pulse compression. It provides a manufacturer-rated maximum instrumented range of up to 96 NM, 2.3-degree horizontal beamwidth, and 24, 36, or 48 RPM rotation speeds. Target Analyzer requires a compatible Furuno NXT radar source and is not a feature of the DRS6AX magnetron scanner itself. Practical target detection depends on antenna height, mounting quality, target size, radar settings, weather, sea state, and local interference.
Key Specifications
- Six-kilowatt UHD digital magnetron open-array radar with 3.5-foot antenna, pedestal, and 15 m radar cable.
- Designed for compatible Furuno NavNet TZtouch and TZtouch2 multifunction display systems.
- Uses a 3.5-foot slotted-waveguide open array with 2.3-degree horizontal and 22-degree vertical beamwidth.
- Provides a maximum instrumented range of up to 96 NM and a minimum range of approximately 25 m.
- Supports 24, 36, and 48 RPM antenna rotation speeds.
- Supports RezBoost processing, Bird Mode, ARPA/target tracking, and compatible radar-overlay functions when system requirements are met.
- Requires a 24V DC power supply with a listed demand of approximately 4A.
- Has IP56 protection, weighs approximately 20 kg as a complete 3.5-foot scanner assembly, and includes the pedestal, radiator, and 15 m cable.
Radar Integration
The DRS6AX requires a compatible Furuno NavNet TZtouch or TZtouch2 display and Furuno Ethernet radar connection for scanner control and radar-video display. NMEA 2000 can provide compatible GPS, heading, AIS, autopilot, and sensor data, but radar video is carried through Furuno Ethernet rather than NMEA 2000.
ARPA tracking and radar overlay require compatible heading and position information. Target Analyzer is a Doppler feature associated with compatible NXT radar models, while the DRS6AX is a magnetron UHD digital radar. Radar is a navigation aid and does not replace a proper lookout, safe speed, official charts, local notices, or collision-regulation compliance.
Installation Considerations
Mount the pedestal and 3.5-foot open array on a rigid level platform with sufficient structural capacity and full rotating-array clearance. Install the scanner at a practical height above the waterline, align it parallel to the waterline, and keep it clear of crew, masts, rigging, antennas, lights, exhaust, and other obstructions. Maintain manufacturer-specified personnel safe distance and compass-safe distance. Route the supplied 15 m radar cable away from heat, chafe, bilge water, high-current wiring, and moving equipment. Radar installation and commissioning should be completed by a qualified marine-electronics technician.
Warranty and Saltwater Care
Furuno warranty coverage varies by region, distributor, proof of purchase, commissioning status, installation method, and intended use. Confirm the applicable local warranty terms, exclusions, product-registration requirements, and authorized-service process before purchase.
The scanner is designed for marine exposure and has IP56 ingress protection, but this does not guarantee immunity from saltwater corrosion. Rinse salt deposits with fresh water where appropriate, avoid high-pressure spray at cable glands and antenna joints, inspect the pedestal, radiator, fasteners, cable seals, and mounting platform regularly, and use compatible marine-grade hardware plus suitable isolation methods to reduce galvanic-corrosion risk.
Before Ordering
Confirm compatible Furuno NavNet TZtouch or TZtouch2 MFD support, Furuno Ethernet radar-network connection, suitability of the included 15 m cable route, 24V DC supply, 4A power capacity, 3.5-foot array rotation clearance, mounting-platform strength, mounting height, personnel and compass-safe-distance requirements, heading and GPS source for ARPA or radar overlay, optional AIS integration, and qualified installation requirements before purchase.
